Out of the Mouths of Babes...and Dudes- John Bytheway

"I always wondered how people could say. " I love you" to people they don't even know, but now I realize that we all knew each other well a long time before. We're really just finally meeting up with old friends. "

Camping

This weekend we went camping with the Willey's(check her blog out too). It was truly an adventure. We went up to Hidden Lake(Montana) which is a little past Henry's lake. It only took about 2 hours to get there. We brought plenty of food and supplies. We rented the canoes and trailer from the school. So worth it. This is where we parked the car. We then had to pack everything down to the lake. Which some would say it was about a mile. And then canoe about a mile to the camp site. Jessica and I made two or three trips. Jason and McKay had to make two more cause they carried the canoes.
We set up camp and had a late dinner which was really good. Jessica made these tin foil dinners--So good. And then she made a cherry spirit cake in a dutch oven. By the time we finished eating and cleaning up it was like 10 o'clock. So we had to load up our canoe with everything that smelled cause we were in bear country and canoe it across the lake at like 10:30 P.M. it was SO dark. Scary dark trying to canoe across the lake. But it was fun. I lost my tooth paste in the lake-opps.
So after canoeing across the lake in the dark and all the bear talk it was a little scary going to bed. But we slept great-Willey's not so well. Hailey is surprisingly well. I only heard her a couple of times and just had to pull her closer to me and we both went right back to sleep.
The next morning we had to canoe over and found our stuff untouched-thankfully. Prayers were answered. We ate a great breakfast and then we went for a canoe ride.

It was so beautiful and peaceful. Nothing but the nature. Along the way Mckay spotted two Bald eagles-the two white dots in the picture below- they just watch us. This was the first time I have seen them trully in the wild. When I was in third grade we went to an eagel reserve and i saw them there. But here they just seemed so much bigger and mightier.

It was so fun to canoe all the way around the lake. It was so still. The reflection in the water was crystal clear. Perfect morning.
After we got back we went for a little hike found that hut and the out house and then we kept going. It was just so fun to be in a place that is not heavliy occupied by people. Where the trails were barley thier and you could tell no one had messed anything up. Along the way we saw a glimps of a moose running away from us. I don't think he was a little one or an adult but he was pretty big. Shortly after that we headed back to camp.

After we got back we decied that we sould head home before the weather turns worse. So we packed up. canoed everything back in the rain-fun fun- and then hiked everything back up agian making two+ trips for everyone. Some hikers did help a little. Then we loaded up and was off...for about two miles then we got stuck and another car had to help us out and up the road. After that smooth sailing and got home nice and dirty.

Things we have learned-
1. If your going camping and have never been there Go scope it out.
2. If in bear area bring more people.
3. Never cook close to dark
4. Bring someone who knows things about animals-tracks and stuff
5. Pack less
